5 Things We Learned About Destiny’s Armor 2.0

Bungie just dropped a ton of Armor 2.0 information on us during their most recent reveal stream. It really seems like Bungie is finally getting more of those RPG elements into their game that they’ve often talked about. Many people have been asking a lot of questions so we pulled together a list of some of the most significant changes and improvements that will be coming with Destiny 2: Shadowkeep this October.

Armor Traits

First, the traits that we remember from the original Destiny game are back. So now, not only will your character have mobility, resilience, and recovery but we will also see the return of discipline, intellect and strength. If you remember, the later effects your grenades, melee and super. This will allow for a higher level of customization when it comes to how you play the game. For some time, it looked like player choice when it came to gameplay had taken a backseat. Now, if you want to be a Defender Titan, rocking double shotguns, with a grenade that regenerates almost instantly, you have the tools to do that.

Mods

The first thing to know about mods is that once you unlock a mod, you own that mod forever. You no longer have to find or buy multiple mods of the same type. Now, you can find mods in engrams, from bounties, and purchase them from the gunsmith. When attaching mods to armor, you pay a small amount of glimmer instead of consuming the mod itself.  There is also a cost for each mod. If you have masterworked armor, you will have up to 10 points to spend here. You will not be able to stack 1 type of mod on the same piece of armor. It will be shown in the UI if the mod has no benefit for you.

Ornaments

All armor that a player has unlocked can now be applied as ornaments to armor 2.0 execpt for exotics. Now, players will have more customization options in addition to shaders. It will also be more difficult to guess an opponent’s abilities based solely off of their appearance. No longer will you have to look like your armor was pieced together from scraps just to get your ideal loadout.

Legendary Armor

Legendary armor will not automatically be converted into armor 2.0. Players will have to find another drop or buy specific armor sets from vendors. If the armor is purchased, it will have a static set of abilities. Better versions can be acquired from random drops and engrams. Again, once an armor piece is acquired, it can be used as an ornament on any other set.

Exotic Armor

Many will be happy to know that they will not have to get another exotic drop for their exotics to become armor 2.0. Players will be able to withdraw the armor piece from their collection. This armor will have a static roll. There will be a possibility of finding an exotic with a better roll while playing in the wild. Also, you will not be able to change the appearance of exotics outside of shaders. Applying ornaments to exotics takes away from their special look and feel.

There was so much information that we did not cover here and some other things that Bungie is keeping under wraps. It is exciting to see Destiny become more of the RPG that it always wanted to be. Gamescom is just around the corner and we cant wait to see what else they have up their sleeves.
