Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Impressions | E3 2018

Boots are on the ground in this next Call Of Duty installment, Black Ops 4 and we couldn’t be happier! Finally getting hands-on with the game thanks to Activision at E3 2018, genuinely revived my love for the franchise.

Watch – Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Hands-on at E3 2018!

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – What’s New?

The return of the pick 10 create-a-class system is back! Building a class on the spot was so much fun, from SMGs and snipers, perks and score-streaks – it felt oh so natural.

Class Selection adds the element of teamwork that is often lacking in multiplayer, with each specialist having unique gear such as a grappling hook, healing, portable cover, and unique grenades to name a few.  The additions of the tactical equipment paves the way for strategies and lane control, and adds an increased need for situational awareness and coordination that the franchise previously lacked.

With the addition of Fog of War, the player is looking towards their teammates more, because they reveal enemy positions, this new feature builds teamwork organically.

This biggest change to Black Ops 4 is the fact that health no longer regenerates. For the first time in Call of Duty multiplayer history, players will have to use a command to heal. When this new feature was announced, I wasn’t looking forward to it but after getting hands-on with the multiplayer myself, I saw that the healing mechanic wasn’t cumbersome. Much like reloading, after an engagement I would find myself easily healing to be at full health, with a short cool down the player doesn’t have to use it conservatively.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – My Impressions

The Specialist that caught my eye was Seraph, a strategic class. Her equipment is a Tac-Deploy that creates a spawn point for your teammates where ever you drop it. Her ability to whip out a revolver with increased bullet penetration allowed me to dominate the field.

The moment I left the spawn I was thrilled by the fact that there were no more jet jumps, and also no more wall rides.

Gunplay has seen a pretty nice improvement – with recoil patterns that aren’t random and guns that are always up and ready to fire, even when throwing grenades and mantling cover, destroying the enemy team was easy.

With health being non-regenerative, the ability to see health bars becomes a crucial feature. While I’m engaging the enemy, If I know they’ve healed already I can make that judgment call to pursue or back off in case the team’s healer could be near.

All in all, being a long-term player of the Call of Duty franchise, I must admit the last few installments were rather lackluster. However, Black Ops 4 has my full attention; this just might be the Call of Duty that brings me to the competitive scene, until then, stay frosty.

Did you hear? We got to play the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with De’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings check it out here!
