Fortnite: Battle Royale Surpasses 10 million

Fortnite: Battle Royale

Fortnite: Battle Royale, a  free standalone title,  is doing well for itself amid plenty of controversies.

Fortnite: Battle Royale launched only two weeks ago but already has a substantial player base.

The launch of this free-to-play standalone title originally faced scrutiny from fans of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.  The studio itself, Bluehole Studio Inc. had a lot to say about Epic Games’ release.  Not only do the two games have a similar premise, but Epic Games also developed their title with the same Unreal Engine as Bluehole used to develop Battlegrounds.

The release of Fortnite came on September 26 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Launch day itself saw over one million players.

Since then the game has reached a player base of over 10 million.  This may be attributed to the hype around PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds but the failure of Bluehole to release the game quick enough on consoles.  An Xbox One release for Bluehole’s title is still expected to come in 2017. There is no word yet on whether the title will be released for PlayStation.

PUBG itself costs $30 to download while Fortnite’s title is free for players.  Additionally, Battlegrounds is not yet out for console. This means that Epic Games currently holds a monopoly on this segment of the market. Still, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds already boasts a quantity of 13 million copies sold.

Fortnite’s new mode incorporates the original title’s personality seamlessly.  The game’s major concept is one of environmental manipulation and structure building somewhat similar to that found in Minecraft.

Hopefully, Epic Games can keep up with game updates and continue to improve its battle royale title.  Keep an eye out for more big moves from Fortnite: Battle Royale and Epic Games.
