Today Rockstar games confirmed a fall 2017 release date for Red Dead Redemption 2. The confirmation was given with the promise of a trailer arriving this Thursday, October 20th.
The sequel has been teased for several days but now we have official confirmation along with a scheduled release date next year. Although a website has been set up, it doesn’t provide much more detail.
The confirmation release provided a bit more information about what to expect from the continuation of the western epic. Rockstar noted the game is “an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland,” with a “vast and atmospheric world”. The open world detail which has be a staple for Rockstar is sure to be heavily on display. Also noted is that the game will have an entirely new online multiplayer mode. While the original Red Dead Redemption had online play, it wasn’t nearly as vast and expansive as GTA Online, which Rockstar has had massive success with.
Unfortunately the website only lists PlayStation 4 and Xbox One support. With a year before release, PC players may have to wait a bit longer for news of a PC port. Sequels to Rockstar games happen rarely, outside of GTA. Red Dead Redemption 2 has been perhaps the most demanded sequel from Rockstar, with the possible exception of Bully. This announcement has instantly catapulted Red Dead Redemption 2 to the top of most of our “Most Anticipated Games of 2017” list. With the trailer landing in two days, prepare your six shooters and lock in your spurs because we are jumping headfirst back into the old west and we couldn’t be happier about it.
