In the midst of the the high-octane skills shown off at the EVO Championship Series 2014 fighting game tournament competition, the newest installment of Namco Bandai Games‘ most beloved franchise known as Tekken was revealed in an announcement trailer. Kazuya, Heihachi, Xiaoyu and the rest of the hugely eclectic cast of characters are coming back one last time for “the final battle” in Tekken 7.
The the 1 minute trailer features some small dialogue and possibly a new fighter joining in the King of Iron Fist Tournament. However, the Unreal 3 Engine logo shown at the end of the trailer was surprising and is almost the best part about the announcement. Epic Games has brought this engine over to games like Crackdown and Fable Legends, so it’ll be rewarding to see how Namco and Epic Games allows Tekken 7 to retain some of the combo heavy mechanics that we’ve seen so far with the franchise.
“This marriage is perfect,” said Taka Kawasaki, Studio Director at Epic Games Japan. “The marriage is perfect – the most powerful engine in gaming with one of the most enduring brands in fighting games. We have no doubt that these forces coming together will yield fantastic results.”
We should be hearing some more about the Tekken 7 on July 27, at the San Diego Comic Con. Until then, peep the epic trailer below.
