Developed by talent at Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, Shift and Dimps, Freedom Wars has been shaping up to be a highly anticipated PlayStation Vita title for us at The Game Fanatics, and what better way to hype the game than with a trailer that delves into the storyline.
In Freedom Wars, players take on the role of one of many prisoners sentenced to a million years for committing an ultimate crime against humanity: living. In a world where resources for living are becoming scarce, states residing in different Panopticons have forced everyone born into the world to manual labor for life. The only way to lessen the length of the sentence is to use your Accessory weapons in order to fight off Abductors, giant and snarly looking monsters that hold innocents inside their bodies.
Of course, the prisoner that players will be able to control is special and has a different purpose than the rest of his surrounding inmates.
Freedom Wars will feature a single player story mode and a co-op mode. There are also plenty of multiplayer options in the game, such help contribute the wipe out of Abductors in your actual city and state area.
In addition to the trailer being released, game producer Junichi Yoshizawa celebrated today’s Japanese release of Freedom Wars by addressing Western audiences who have shown interest in the game.
“Freedom Wars is a title I created to realize a dream of mine. My vision was to develop a PS Vita game that took advantage of the handheld system’s unique features, enabling gamers to come together via ad-hoc and Wi-Fi to overcome terrifying enemies,” Yoshizawa said.
“In order to do that, I gathered a number of well-known developers with an impressive pedigree for creating some of Japan’s most beloved titles – developers Shift and Dimps. The collaboration between these two developers has been wonderful.”
Freedom Wars is set to hit North America on the PlayStation Vita this August. In order to get a glimpse at what the expect from the story, check out the official English trailer for the game below.
