WB Games unveiled a surprisingly fun-looking multiplayer addition to Batman: Arkham Origins today. In the trailer below, you’ll see what looks like a third-person team deathmatch setup with a twist: 3 vs 3 vs 2 matches, where a total of 8 players will be split up, with three each playing on the side of Joker or Bane, while two lucky folks get to play as either Batman or Robin in an attempt to take everyone else down.
For those not in the know, Batman: Arkham Origins is a prequel to the excellent Batman: Arkham series in which Batman has to fend off a series of assassins all looking to take him out in the early stages of his career, but is being handled by WB Games Montreal instead of Rocksteady. That being said, what we’ve seen so far is promising, as it looks like this game will recapture the other games’ action and stealth elements.
Some people have been calling for a multiplayer mode for the Batman: Arkham series ever since the first game, but usually in a co-op manner for playing through the story mode as both Batman and Robin/Nightwing/Red Hood. It looks like this may be as close as we’ll get to that, but it still looks more fun than many would’ve initially thought.
Batman: Arkham Origins launches October 25th on PC, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PS3.
