4A Releases New Trailer for Metro Last Light

Developer 4A Games has released a new trailer for its upcoming first person shooter, Metro Last Light.

Last Light follows the footsteps of Metro 2033, a 2010 sleeper hit that successfully blended FPS and survival horror genres.

In Metro Last Light, players are confronted by a post-apocalyptic Moscow overrun by a relentless mutant race. Moscow’s remaining civilians are politically divided and on the brink of all-out civil war. Players must use a bevy of firearms at their disposal and stealth tactics to overcome both human and mutant hostile forces.

A synopsis of the trailer and 4A’s full cut are below.

From the trailer’s narration, we’re brought onto the scene of a post-apocalyptic world told in the fashion of the Bible’s Genesis. The montage of images depicts an abandoned, tattered city of Moscow. The trailer then takes us underground, where a weary group of survivors struggle to maintain morale and civility.

Halfway through, the suspense quickly builds, as we see armed civilians making their way through the underground’s dark passages and anticipating an extraterrestrial attack. Gunfire, flashlights, and carnage light up the screen, and, despite the darkness, we get a couple close-ups of the hellish opposition.

The aftermath of the skirmish is chilling with blood-soaked floors and motionless bodies. But, as the narrator tells us, “There is still hope.” The trailer cuts to a first-person perspective of an armed survivor traversing the underground in search of a way out.

The trailer concludes with our narrator — supposedly Artyom — assuming the role of the survivor, confessing, “Our fate, I hold in my own hands.” Upon breaching the surface, we see another survivor joining us in the inter-species conflict.

Metro Last Light is scheduled for a March 2013 release on Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
