Well it’s no breaking news story that 3D tv’s are slowly creeping into the consumer market; now whether or not they’ll be a success remains to be seen. You can look at the failure of the Dreamcast and the success of the iPad and see that sometimes things are just a hit and a miss or a hit and a fatality. Whatever the case may be, two big names in eyewear fashion have stepped up to the plate and produced some pretty fashionable 3-D glasses.
Oakley’s “Tron Legacy” 3D Glasses
“The premiere of TRON: Legacy is a great opportunity for us to introduce moviegoers to the unique innovations of Oakley 3D eyewear,” said Oakley CEOColin Baden. “This film will be an incredible visual experience, and those who view it with Oakley 3D eyewear will get the most out of it by enjoying the clarity and 3D performance of unparalleled design. We are honored to collaborate with Disney for this special event, and we look forward to opening the world’s eyes to the ultimate 3D experience with Oakley 3D eyewear,”
Now make no mistake, this sexy piece of eye candy just might hurt your wallet; at $150 a pop you’ll be sure to make a fashion statement in a dark theatre room surrounded by the poor saps who got those cheap plastic RealD glasses.
Gucci 3-D Glasses
The Gucci 3-D glasses feature “optically correct 6-base curved lenses with circular polarized technology,” optimal for Real D, the system in use by over half the movie theaters in the country. The Gucci 3-D glasses also “contain a high tech multi-layered mirrored coating which allows the wearer to view themselves in a mirror without distortion. The mirrored coating not only provides a premium look as well as offers superior viewing and contrast enhancement, but also allows over 98 percent of visible light through, therefore not affecting viewing in a cinema environment. An anti-reflective coating has been applied to the back of the lens for additional overall image quality by reducing scattered light, glare and blue light.” So, they don’t just look better than the throwaways that come in a plastic bag; they can also enhance your 3-D viewing experience.
