Yesterday, while down at the SAG offices I overheard a few people talking about Will Smith and Quentin Tarintino, two names I’m not exactly used to hearing in the same sentence. Naturally I butted in and was given the early copy of Hollywood Reporter in their hands and shown the article they were mulling over and holy crap, good ole QT is looking for WILL SMITH as his first choice to star in his extremely twisted westerner, DJANGO UNCHAINED!
The story revolves around Smith playing a freed slave that teams up with a German bounty hunter who would be played by Christoph Waltz (of Inglorious Basterds fame), on a mission to reunite with his still slave wife. The only other member of the cast that is set in stone as of this writing is Samuel L. Jackson, whom will play Smith’s arch nemesis of sorts, more specifically the slippery conniving house slave of an extremely evil plantation owner.
Awesome sauce.
No word on the international distribution of the film as of now, but the film will be distributed by the Weinstein Company here stateside. Word is Smith has been wanting to work with QT for a minute, and obviously QT is a fan
I’m in love with this as a flick and of course, my fingers are crossed that it happens, because honestly, I want Smith to prove to his fanbase and haters alike that he can in fact, act, and is worth the money he is often paid. Oh, how I miss Big Willy Weekends.
