The Hammer Has Come Down, Bungie Addresses Latest Exploits and Incoming Fixes for Destiny

We were wondering when Bungie would finally address the Loot-Cave and other fixes and it seems as though we’ll be seeing some big changes coming to Destiny fairly soon. Among them is the infamous Loot-Cave in the Cosmodrone, where groups of Guardians perch on a hill as they rain down hellfire into a tiny cave; effectively killing continuous acolytes spawns for endless loot drops. It actually worked, although not a sustainable strategy for obtaining Legendary engrams, it was perfectly suitable for Glimmer farming as well as Blue engrams which helped level up your Cryptarch at the Tower.

Bungie is looking to significantly delay the respawn time of the acolytes, essentially rendering them a waste of your time. Bungie claims that the loot-cave was not the vision of social interactivity they had originally planned and they hope that players spend their time doing other worthwhile activities like Strikes and Raids. The Loot-Cave was laborious but it made players work with other people outside their Fireteam and many relationships have been formed at the Cave but it’s understandable that Bungie doesn’t want Destiny to be known as a grindy, loot-caving MMO Shooter.

The Loot system in Destiny has been widely documented and discussed and I’m personally 50/50 on the whole thing. On one hand, I actually like the RNG aspect of loot drops but I cannot condone Legendary Engrams being downgraded to lowly Blue equipment or less which happens far too often.

Bungie also stated that a change to voice communication will be coming which will undoubtedly make Destiny feel a bit more alive since we are only allowed voice-chat with members of our fireteam. The changes that are coming are good changes that will sharpen up the game’s rough systems and hopefully cultivate new experiences and interactions. For a more detailed rundown of the incoming changes, check out Bungie’s Destiny Dev Notes on their site.

Rest in Peace infamous Loot-Cave in the Cosmodrone, we will miss your overabundance of green loot and unsuspecting acolytes who blindly run into the firing line. At least Bungie is looking out for those poor old acolytes.
