Nintendo has come out to announce its realization that Yo-Kai Watch is the new Pokemon of today’s generation, which is why they’re deadset on bringing Yo-Kai Watch 2 to the states in the same way they drop Pokemon games.
Those unfamiliar with Yo-Kai Watch will find that the series is wholly focused on a young boy named Keita, who is granted a mysterious watch and tasked to capture ghouls, goblins, and other ghostly characters. Since this is of Japanese nature — and an anime at that — these ghostly monsters are often adorable looking and, for some, up to no good in the Yo-Kai world. With the Yo-Kai watch, Keita has the power to discover and capture these ghostly creatures. Sounds a lot like Pokemon…but hey, the monsters are freaking cute.
With the games already having a huge following in Japan, Nintendo has decided to bring Yokai Watch 2 in two different versions. One of them will be known as Bony Spirits and the other, Fleshy Souls. This format is similar to Pokemon’s Blue/Red or Sapphire/Ruby versions for Nintendo’s handheld consoles.
“After being such a massive sensation in Japan, it’s great to see the U.S. start to embrace the mischievous and lovable Yo-kai,” said Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Scott Moffatt. “We’re excited to continue bringing fun Yo-kai experiences stateside this year.”
Yokai Watch 2 Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls is set to drop in the States on September 30th for the Nintendo 3DS. There has been no word or mention if there will be any other Pokemon type characteristics that will be mirrored in Yo-Ka1 Watch 2, but if anything, we’re hoping for some creative and new ways to do battle with all the Yo-Kai out there.
