THQ’s recent demise left many of its properties in an uncertain state of existence; what titles were going to survive the bankruptcy at other companies and what would fall to the wayside, going down with the USS THQ?
Take-Two jumped at the license for the famous wrestling WWE series at the public bankruptcy auction and has officially announced a launch date for the franchises next installment.
WWE ‘14 is set for an October 29th release on both PS3 and 360, and will mark the first of Take-Two’s five year exclusive rights deal to publish WWE games “across all major platforms and distribution channels.”
Although this marks the first WWE game since 1999 to not be released by THQ, besides a subtle name change of 2k14 to ’14, the effects of Take Two’s take over will presumably not be felt until the next edition. WWE ’14 is still being developed by longtime WWE game associate Yuke’s, with Take Two solely publishing this years installment.
Casey Collins, WWE’s Executive Vice President of Consumer Products, has stated that The Rock will grace this years cover.
