If you just can’t wait to play The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Nintendo‘s making it so you can play two weeks early… as long as you don’t want a physical copy. Yes, the rumors are true, the Nintendo eShop version of Wind Waker HD will be released September 20th, two weeks before the physical Wii U disc hits store shelves. Nintendo did something similar with New Super Luigi U, as they try to entice more and more Wii U gamers to go ahead and jump into the digital distribution side of things. It’s a neat concept and one that more publishers should embrace.
The announcement came as part of today’s news dump that included a $50 Wii U price cut and the unveiling of a brand new Nintendo handheld, the 2DS. Also, we got official confirmation of the Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle, which includes a black 32GB Wii U system (with Zelda-inspired gold trim), a copy of Wind Waker HD, and a digital copy of The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia built in.
Several Nintendo titles also got their release dates confirmed, including the latest Mario and Donkey Kong entries, and Kotaku points out that the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will include Nintendo Network support, opening up the possibility of DLC or multiplayer (which would be a first for a Zelda title not named “Four Swords.”)
