Wii U Pro Controller Compatible with Wind Waker HD

A post on Nintendo‘s Japanese site has revealed a couple of tidbits about The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD

The HD remake of the GameCube classic will support the Wii U’s Pro Controller, according to Nintendo. Also, it’ll be available as a digital download in the Nintendo eShop as well as at retail, but if you choose to download you’ll need about 2.6GB of space on your hard drive – be it the Wii U‘s internal drive or a USB expansion – as well as 31MB for your save files. We know the Wii U‘s GamePad will be used by The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD for equipment selection, menus, off-screen play and so on, so it’s assumed that if you use the Wii U Pro Controller instead, you’ll just be playing the game as you would on the GameCube (but with improved visuals, of course).

Other recent Wind Waker HD news included the promise that the game’s biggest flaws – long sailing times and that infamous Triforce “fetch quest” near the end of the game – are both being taken care of, but the so-called “lost” dungeons cut from the original won’t be returning.

That’s fine with me, as the original Wind Waker was still pretty darn good, and it’s looking to be even better this time around. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD hits stores and the Nintendo eShop on September 26th in Japan and October 4th in Europe, with a North American release date not yet confirmed but expected in that same time frame.
