Watch Dogs Legion: Bloodline is the answer to all of those who wanted to follow a more streamlined, character-focused story in the Watch Dogs universe. In this DLC, you get a chance to play as the legend, Aiden Pearce, from the original game and a fan favorite, Wrench, from Watch Dogs 2. Bloodline takes place after the Zero Day terror attacks on London but before the new DedSec resistance. An older and what may seem like a slightly less capable, Aiden finds himself in a situation where there was more to the mission than he thought and now he has family wrapped up in his mess again. Without spoiling much, this mission causes Aiden and Wrench to cross paths and leads them on an interesting adventure.
When it comes to gameplay, everything is pretty much the same as the base game. The main changes come in the form of new abilities that Aiden and Wrench bring to the table and encounter because of new enemy types. Now I won’t spoil too much here but some encounters can be a little different because of the gadgets you have access to and the way that new enemies interact with the environment. The way you acquire new abilities is a little bit different here since you are following two characters throughout the entire story. Instead of earning in-game tokens to unlock abilities, you are completing missions in order to unlock abilities and gadgets. Doing this no only extends the length of the experience, but it gives the player more background and details of the game world and characters. There are also new weapons that the player has access to. Aiden has his signature baton and revolver and Wrench brings a sledgehammer and some new hacking techniques.
Even as a person that enjoyed the new route that the base game took with the recruitment of new DedSec agents, I have to say that it felt really good to just follow the story of one or two characters. There is a certain level of connection and emotion that is felt in Watch Dogs Legion: Bloodline that is not there in the base game. Now I don’t think this is a huge knock for the base game. It is just a different feeling that I believe a lot of people who were fans of the first two games will enjoy. With this being a prequel story, I think it is a good starting part for a lot of people to jump in if they haven’t tried the game yet.
If you want to jump into this new story, it is available NOW (July 6th) for you to jump in and play. While you do need the base game to access WDL Bloodline, it is a separate experience and can be accessed without finishing Watch Dogs Legion. Again, If you haven’t played yet, this is a great place to jump in. You get all of the great features of the base game with brand new story content. I think this is a great way to add new content and introduce new characters into the Watch Dogs universe. Ubisoft has really done a great job with Bloodline and it’s a definite must-play for all Watch Dogs fans. This first big story expansion is a great way to invigorate the universe and I can’t wait for the next content expansion in the roadmap.
