It looks like Watch Dogs 2 just might be one of Ubisoft’s big announcements at E3 2016. Here’s what we’ve found out so far.
It’s not a radical statement to say that making video games is really hard work. Add to that the challenge of introducing a new IP to the market, and THEN managing to knock it out of the park the first time out. Some games manage to do it (Half-Life, BioShock), and some games are Watch Dogs. While this Ubisoft game from 2014 was by no means bad, its primary issue was that it just didn’t do any one thing particularly well. That, coupled with the huge amount of hype leading up to its release, left many coming away from it disappointed.
Still, Watch Dogs sold millions of copies, so there was at least a reason for Ubisoft to have another go at this property and work out some of its kinks. Based on some leaked information, it appears that not only is Watch Dogs 2 happening, but that it’s going to be officially announced at E3 2016 next month.
Twitter account NerdLinks discovered the above Instagram post from user ‘thekingcort‘ (whose account is now private by the way), a motion capture actor who recently completed work on “a new video game series” which he hashtags as Watch Dogs 2. Based on this, it’s safe to assume that the game will have a new protagonist. Hopefully this one will be better developed and more interesting than…whatever that other guy’s name was.
In addition to this news, the following CV by actor Jason Kyle shows that he has done a variety of voices for Watch Dogs 2.
What this all seems to point to is that an official announcement for Watch Dogs 2 is imminent, and with E3 just around the corner it makes sense that it will be one of their big reveals. One hopes that this time around, Ubisoft manages to turn Watch Dogs 2 into something that stretches beyond the now-standard Ubisoft open-world formula. There’s no question that its announcement and eventual release will garner no small amount of attention, so we’ll all find out soon enough what kind of game Watch Dogs 2 really is.
