The new teaser trailer of Marvel’s Doctor Strange film shows us a trippy new entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The new trailer features Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character. Doctor Strange is a neurosurgeon who is met with a career ending injury in a car accident. With his hands damaged and useless, the doctor undertakes a journey in an effort to heal himself and find his place in the world.
He eventually meets meets The Ancient One and desires to learn the mystic arts and go well beyond the realm of science and medicine. There’s a lot of mind bending imagery in the trailer – of cities and reality being twisted and manipulated. From what it shows, it seems to be a more thought provoking film compared to the action packed fair in previous entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not to say that there isn’t any action to be had, it looks like there will be plenty, but the distinct feature of the trailer seems to be the way reality is warping.
The film is directed by Scott Derrickson, who’s previous efforts include movies like Hellraiser: Inferno and the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. He’s also directed other horror films like The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister, so there may be a chance that this film will take on a darker tone. The writers on board are Jon Spaihts and C. Robert Cargill. Spaihts is also writing the script for Pacific Rim 2 and the reboot of The Mummy. Cargill has previously worked with Derrickson on Sinister and Sinister 2.
The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch of Sherlock fame as Doctor Strange. Slated for a November 4th release, there’s still plenty of time to get hyped and speculate about the finer details of the story, and how this film will fit into the ever growing Marvel Universe.
