Walmart Launches Game Trade-In Program

Look out, GameStop, you’ve now got competition from America’s biggest retailer, Walmart. In a press release posted on their corporate website, Walmart has confirmed something a lot of their customers have been wanting… a used game trade-in program. Starting March 26th for customers (and already underway for Walmart employees), you’ll be able to trade in your used console games (including Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and presumably PS4 and Xbox One) at one of the 3,100 participating Walmart locations for an instant gift card, usable either online or in-store at both Walmart and Sam’s Club locations.

“Gaming continues to be an important business for us and we’re actively taking aim at the $2 billion pre-owned video game opportunity,” said Duncan Mac Naughton, chief merchandising and marketing officer for Walmart U.S. “When we disrupt markets and compete, our customer wins. They’ll save money on video games and have the flexibility to spend it however they want.”

Walmart has released a special video detailing how the program works as well:

“Certified Pre-Owned” games will be available for purchase this summer.

So what do you think? Plan on taking your games to Walmart instead of GameStop if your local store supports it? Do you plan on waiting to see how the trade-in values compare before jumping in?
