New WAKFU Character Class and Zone Available

If you’re looking at the title of this post with your head tilted at an angle and an expression of confusion on your face, wondering just what exactly “WAKFU” is and if it’s something in between mushu or kung fu, you’re probably not alone. It’s developer Ankama’s latest venture into a tactical, turn-based MMORPG that’s currently in closed beta, but will hit full release status in February of next year. I guess you can think of it as something along the lines of CyberNations mixed with Final Fantasy: Tactics… anime style.

Ankama and Square Enix have just revealed a new character class and world zone for Wakfu. Those who are currently involved in the closed beta will get to see the new  (get your ‘ooo’s and ‘ahhs’ ready) Osamodas’ Whip and Tofu Canyon when the latest patch goes live on November 23rd.

The Osamodas’ are apparently beast tamers and “true lovers of all creatures”. Setting all beastiality jokes aside, the Osamodas actually sound pretty cool. They’re accompanied by Gobgobs, who help the Osamodas collect souls. The Osamodas can use magic in the form of the four elements, animal transformations, animal summons, and cries.

No, Tofu Canyon is, in fact, not vegan heaven. It’s actually a lush jungle area where you can apparently visit temple ruins and fish. Oh, and there’s a guitar-playing fellow named Larsenus Wallace who, for some reason, will not teach you the joy of music but of herbs?

I realize that everything I’m writing down right now makes me sound like a crazy person to anyone who hasn’t played WAKFU. Either wait until February of 2012 for the finished product or direct yourself over here to make sense of what I’m saying. WAKFU, like almost every other MMORPG out there these days, follows the free-to-play format. Subscription’s a hefty $6 a month, which, let’s be honest, you can pay. I promise, you can do without your treinti Starbucks latte.
