VIZIO 2014 M-Series | Finally, an LED TV Worthy of Your Next-Gen Console

Recently I got the chance to preview a VIZIO 2014 M-Series LED TV.  Frame rate, picture quality, and clarity are just a few things I look for in a good TV, as would any gamer. So how did the VIZIO 2014 M-Series hold up? Pretty good actually.

Back in my day (insert mental image of me waving a cane), when you were looking for a high quality TV you would generally stay away from LED TVs because it couldn’t achieve the bright colors and blacker blacks due to bleeding. Now, not only is that no longer an issue, but it is just one reason why it’s totally fine to switch to LED.

With the VIZIO 2014 M-Series, it combats bleeding beautifully by using zones. The 2014 M-Series has 36 LED zone, doubling last year’s collection. How the zones work is when the sensors in the TV notice that there are black colors on the screen (or widescreen bars), it actively blacks out or dims those sections. Next to another comparable LED TV in the same room, the M-Series crushed it.

How smart is it? Most of the M-Series sets are Smart TV enabled. It comes loaded with built-in Wi-Fi and apps such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, VUDU, YouTube, and Spotify. The TV also has a Chromecast-like smartphone/tablet-to-TV feature, meaning that some of the apps allow you to use your phone or tablet to project its content onto the screen. As an additional bonus, the VIZIO 2014 M-Series TV even has a nice remote control with a fully qwerty keyboard on the back and an improved slim frame.

Much skinny, so .3″, very full backlit array, wow

So is it worth it? Even though there are still cheaper LED TVs on the market, with all of its features and a picture quality that is worthy of your next-gen console, or Game of Thrones, it is still a good purchase.

Notable features:

  • Full-Array LED backlighting

  • 36 Active LED Zones
  • Smart TV enabled
  • Sizes 32”-70” inches
  • 720 Action Rate (Measured with a 240Hz Effective Refresh Rate)
  • Ultra-slim .3” frame
  • Ultra-narrow 8mm bezels

Prices range from $329 go $3,199. Features vary by size.
