If the lack of Team Ico games irks you and you still cling to hope that The Last Guardian will be released in your life time, then Vane may be just what you’re looking for. From what we’ve seen in the TGS 2014 Trailer, Vane invokes the feel of a Team Ico game. Focus is placed on puzzle-solving during exploration of the mysterious land, and after looking at the stylized art you may think of it as the spiritual love child of Ico and Journey until further notice.
Friend & Foe Games has claimed Vane will be an open world, single player experience. Players will take control of a boy with the ability to transform into a bird and fly through the air by some currently unknown means, as he explores the strange land he’s stuck in. The land is unknown to us and tribulation lurks around every corner as the environment itself is dangerous, let alone the strange civilization inhabiting it. With former members of The Last Guardian‘s team now calling Friend & Foe home, expectations may run high. At least the game looks the part so far.
Vane currently has a release date of “when it’s finished,” so it’s best not to get your hopes up for a release any time soon. Friend & Foe have listed it as a PC release first and foremost with other platforms TBA further down the road. The studio claims to value swift development times, but games of this nature can get away from their developers at times, so we’ll wait patiently and see. It couldn’t possibly take as long as The Last Guardian…right?
