Uncharted 4 Plunder Mode Uncovered at PAX

Naughty Dog has revealed that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will include a leaner version of the beloved Plunder mode featured in the previous two games…let’s get looting!

The mode, which has been a highlight of the series since the second Uncharted game, will make a return here – albeit a slimmed down version. Essentially “a Capture the Flag type game mode but with an Uncharted twist,” says Lead Game Designer Robert Cogburn on the PlayStation blog.

This version of plunder – looking stunning and frenetic in the new game’s engine – will be four versus four, as opposed to five versus five. Cogburn went on to reassure fans saying, “No doubt this may cause shortness of breath for fans of the mode, but worry not! Given the number of mechanics that have been introduced into our multiplayer’s moment-to-moment gameplay, Plunder at four vs. four is perfect and we hope fans that experience this mode at PAX East feel the same.”

It is a relief to hear the Plunder is back in the much-awaited new release. Not only was it one of the best multiplayer modes, but it focused on perhaps one of the series’ more neglected ideas – plundering. Whilst occasionally straying off the beaten path during single player meant finding the odd relic, the series has yet to really place value and spend time on making us feel as though we’re raiding tombs. Perhaps that was a poor choice of words.
