It has been revealed that Ubisoft’s Uplay network installs a plug-in that you definitely don’t want to keep.If you’re a PC gamer and you’ve been playing games that use the Uplay service, chances are that someone can completely take control of your machine.
Website Rock, Paper, Scissors tested the problem, and were able to remotely operate a computer after installing the plug-in. It is strongly advised that PC gamers check their plug-ins for any trace of the Uplay exploit. It should be removable via a plug-in menu in your browser. A list of affected games has also been released, but it is also potentially incomplete. Those games are:
- Assassin’s Creed II
- Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
- Assassin’s Creed: Project Legacy
- Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
- Assassin’s Creed III
- Beowulf: The Game
- Brothers in Arms Furious 4
- Call of Juarez: The Cartel
- Driver: San Francisco
- Heroes of Might and Magic IV
- Just Dance 3
- Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
- Pure Football
- R.U.S.E
- Shaun White Skateboarding
- Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic
- The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom
- Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X . 2
- Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
- Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction
- Your Shape: Fitness Evolved
Ubisoft has already released an update for Uplay that allegedly prevents the plug-in from opening any applications except for Uplay. It’s not confirmed yet, so once again, please check your browser.
