Ubisoft has been talking up its Snowgen engine pretty big lately, and at the VGX awards last weekend they proudly showed it off with a trailer for Tom Clancy’s The Division. “Never before has a video game reached this level of detail,” boasts Ubisoft.
Wikipedia describes The Division as an “online multiplayer third-person tactical shooter action role-playing” game, and from what we’ve seen so far, that seems to be fairly accurate. Its announcement at E3 this year was accompanied by a lengthy gameplay video, which quickly became a show highlight. The game takes place in a modern New York City, three weeks after a lethal virus was released during Black Friday.
With its Snowdrop engine, Ubisoft boasts of intricately detailed lighting via a volumetric system, realistic day and night cycles, and unprecedented weather effect quality. The Division will launch sometime in 2014 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
