Ubisoft Press Conference Predictions | E3 2017

Ubisoft is a publisher that seems to lay everything on the table. We know for a fact that Far Cry 5, Assassin’s Creed Origins, and South Park will be shown. But what about lesser known titles?

Titles that have been long forgotten, brushed along the wayside and left for dead. With E3 steadily approaching with teaser trailers and reassurance that our beloved annual franchises are returning again this year. I couldn’t help but think about the Ubisoft titles that would benefit most from a current-gen counterpart.

Reaching For The Stars

Everyone has a list of games they know have no chance of being announced but still hold out for. Games like Half-Life 3 are synonymous with hype and joke announcements. No one ever expects them to be revealed but at the same time really wishes they would be.

Ubisoft is an interesting publisher and over the last 26-years in the industry have developed some truly classic franchises. Most of these games have not had updates in years. These are the games we want to see at E3 but likely won’t see any love.

Prince of Persia

So let’s reach for the stars on this first prediction, because why not? The last real Prince of Persia we got was 7 years ago. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands sent the series back to the original story, connecting the gap between Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and The Warrior Within.  With the recent success of single-player games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, it’s completely possible that a Prince of Persia game could thrive. While the chances are pretty slim that we’d get a real Prince of Persia announcement, I’d say we’re long overdue.

Prince of Persia

Fully 3D Rayman

Rayman 2 is a title I hold near and dear to my heart. It’s not a particularly well remembered on the platforming front but it was fantastic. Full of colorful vistas, unique enemy types, and a fun-loving protagonist, it checked off all the boxes a little kid playing PSone could hope for.

Rayman

Rayman: Legends was released in 2013 and met with positive reception. My main gripe is that this is a side-scrolling Rayman and while fun it’s not the 3D platform I am looking for. Yooka-Laylee was just released to lukewarm reviews but the seed has been planted and an uprising of classic 3D platformers are just on the horizon.

Realistic Predictions

Beyond Good & Evil 2

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been held in front of fans like a carrot on a stick. The game garnered a massive cult following since its release back in 2003 and demand for a sequel has only increased.

We have been given concept art for the sequel and it’s been discussed in small pieces over the years. It seems like the game is in development but it’s been on radio silence for a while now.  Ubisoft does have a lot going on right now with The Division, Far Cry, and Assassin’s Creed and they are likely holding onto it for the off year in their annual series.

Beyond Good and Evil

We have been given information that Beyond Good & Evil 2 will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch for a year and has just entered pre-production. I am still not completely sold that we won’t see this game at E3 in some form or another. At most I expect we will see a pre-rendered teaser trailer but it will be there.

Splinter Cell

Splinter Cell Blacklist was the last game in the series we were privileged to play. Blacklist was a lot of fun and met with very positive reviews but it was missing something. That something was Michael Ironside. I am going to make some very bold predictions here and one of them is that Michael Ironside will be returning as Sam Fisher.

Splinter Cell

It’s no secret that Splinter Cell will be coming back in some form or another but in what form is the real question. I believe that we will see a return to classic aspects of the series, completely disregarding the path that was set forth by Blacklist. At Ubisoft’s conference, I am predicting that we will get a teaser trailer for Splinter Cell.

Ubisoft will also announce an HD collection consisting of Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, and Chaos Theory.

Ubisoft is really bringing a lot to the table this year and I expect them to bring a whole lot more. I wouldn’t underestimate the showmanship of Ubisoft. They love E3, Celebrity guests, and more importantly surprise reveals. Also, let’s not forget Rabbids…Rabbids will be there too.

So, those are our predictions! What did you think? And what’s on your list of predictions or wishes? Sound off in the comments below!
