Ubisoft Changes their PC DRM Strategy for Driver: San Francisco

After tons of negative feedback for the questionable port of From Dust for PC, Ubisoft is getting a lot of heat from the PC community involving it’s extremely controversial “Always On” DRM. For those who don’t know the “Always On” DRM forces law abiding PC gamers to be online at all times when playing the single player game.

Now Ubisoft is slightly changing their policy which is arguably any better. In a recent interview with Rock Paper Shotgun Ubisoft told it’s PC crowd,

“We’ve heard your feedback regarding the permanent internet connection requirement for Driver and have made the decision to no longer include it. So this means that Driver PC gamers will only need to sign in at game launch but can subsequently choose to play the game offline.”

Is this any better? My real question is what a developer to do? If we look at World of Goo those who do not force DRM on their customers suffer 90% piracy rates. However those who do force DRM only punish people who actually buy the game. What do you think? Leave your thoughts in the comments below. Game Junkies Unite!
