Ubisoft Opens Two New Studios Focused On AAA Development

Ubisoft has opened two new European studios focused on AAA development.

According to a post on the Ubisoft blog, the new studios will focus on “AAA multiplatform development, and will assist in creating new games for some of the biggest franchises in gaming.” The studios are being established in the French city Bordeaux and Berlin, Germany.

Ubisoft Bordeaux strengthens the company’s base in France. Ubisoft already houses studios in Paris, Lyon, Annecy, and Montpellier. These studios have worked on franchises such as Rayman, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell. Based on the blog post it sounds like the new studio will be working as a support studio on the company’s biggest games.

“Bordeaux will collaborate on games whose development is led by fellow French studios, which include franchises like Just Dance, Steep, and Ghost Recon: Wildlands,” said the company in a blog post.

The second studio, Ubisoft Berlin, is working on an unannounced AAA project. The Berlin studio will be working with German-based developer Blue Byte on the new game. Blue Byte is best known for their recent work on the Anno series with Anno 2070 and Anno 2205. The studio has also provided work for the company’s bigger franchises, including Rainbow Six Siege and For Honor.

The expansion comes with little surprise as Ubisoft continues to grow and introduce new games with longer tails. The company has promised two free expansions to The Division and another year of content for Rainbow Six Siege. That is on top of continued support on For Honor and Ghost Recon: Wildlands and development on the massive Assassin’s Creed franchise.

According to the blog post the company is still working on staffing these studios. No other information about their first projects was revealed.
