Ubisoft Announces Release Date for Wii U Exclusive Rayman Legends

Ubisoft has confirmed not only a release date for Rayman Legends, but also that the game will remain an exclusive for the Wii U.

Rayman Legends will be available for the Wii U in North America on February 26, but in the meantime, gamers can download the demo from the Nintendo eShop starting December 13.

The platformer marks the return of Rayman, Globox, and the Teensies, while also introducing two new characters. Like its predecessor, Rayman Origins, Legends offers solo and cooperative play, now supporting up to five players simultaneously without interruption.

Taking advantage of the Wii U’s Game Pad, gamers can use the touch screen to take out enemies, cut ropes to clear out a path, and move rotating platforms with the help of gyroscope technology. Ubisoft has also enabled on-the-go enjoyment through the Game Pad.

Players will have to think extra creatively for ways to defeat bosses, which appear as 3D characters in contrast to the game’s overall 2D presentation. Other 3D gameplay elements will be incorporated as well.

A couple of the announced levels include an underwater haven and a flourishing beanstalk environment. Ubisoft has also confirmed that some of the game’s levels will be musically synced to popular songs. Whether or not that means Rayman going Gangnam Style on some foes has yet to be unveiled.

Rayman Legends will also hit store shelves in EMEA countries on Feburary 28 and in the UK on March 1. The product has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

The Rayman franchise was created by Michael Ancel, who also created Raving Rabbids and Beyond Good and Evil.
