Square Enix, currently at work on a reboot of the popular Tomb Raider series, has announced the new title will feature an all-new multiplayer mode, a first for any game in the series. This new mode is being developed apart from the rest of the game, by Eidos Montreal. This move is designed to allow the team at Crystal Dynamics to move full steam ahead on the single-player portion of the newest Tomb Raider release, continuing Lara Croft’s adventure.
Though this new multiplayer aspect will be uncharted territory for long-time fans of the series to be sure, this being the first time ever for the series. Ultimately, only time will tell if it succeeds in meeting the developers’ hopes and the satisfaction of the gamers who will play it. Not much else has been said of this new expansion for the Tomb Raider series as far this mode is concerned.
Square Enix also worked with Eidos on Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and both are involved with Theif 4, a highly-anticipated release in a long-standing franchise. The excitement of story and character-building from Deus Ex is sure to come into play with this reboot, offering what we hope to be a rich, action-packed expedition into Lara Croft’s world once again. Tomb Raider is set for a release on March 5, 2013, for Playstation 3, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox 360.
