Sony is so impressed with Tom Holland in the upcoming Spider-Man movie that they are willing to build another franchise around him.
Deadline is reporting that the actor has been cast as Nathan Drake in the movie adaptation of Uncharted. The Uncharted film will feature a young Nathan Drake, and focus on him meeting his mentor Sully. Uncharted fans will recognize this sequence from one of the opening chapters of Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception. Night at the Museum and Real Steel director, Shawn Levy will be taking the helm of the Uncharted film.
After seeing the latest cut of Spider-Man, Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman felt the need to reorganize the Uncharted film. The Uncharted franchise has tried for years to get off the ground, with multiple directors attached and several scripts penned for the film. With the excitement behind Tom Holland and the new Spider-Man film, Nathan Drake’s movie debut seems more likely than ever.
Hopefully, the Uncharted film doesn’t follow in the same footsteps as Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider, other disappointing video game movies. Video games do not have an incredible track record when it comes to the big screen. But with Uncharted playing as one big interactive movie, it has the best shot at being a success.
