ToeJam And Earl: Back In The Groove Adds Funk To The Nintendo Switch

The funk is back, making way from its Sega Genesis origins to the Nintendo Switch. Crazy earthlings, wicked dance-offs, and amazing beats will strike Nintendo’s console when ToeJam and Earl: Back in the Groove releases this 2017 to take players in a bizarre rap journey.

The news was announced by Greg Johnson on the game’s Kickstarter project, which gathered over $500.000, going past their intended goal of $400.000. You can still support the project and gain funky merch and perks depending on your contribution.

Warning, RapMaster Rocketship Incoming!

Earth should be afraid, ’cause the RapMaster Rocketship’s heading straight to it with some odd visitors: ToeJam, Big Earl, and some friends who tagged along. Paying homage to the first two titles of the saga, the funky gang wants to visit the planet where all the crazy earthlings came from, but not without some messy problem of course. A strange button here, a misclick there, and boom. Earth is shattered into an interdimensional-black-hole world. Typical TJ and Big E.

Players will traverse this odd lands once more, with the revamped 90’s looks that the Sega Genesis ruled in a bright cartoonish fashion. Scrap everything and imagine the first ToeJam and Earl, but instead of pure 2D graphics, add 3D to the cartoon terrain and stack levels. Voila! You’ve got a nostalgic experience packed with 25 random levels and 9 funky playable characters that are ready to groove around what’s left of planet Earth to gather the rocketship’s pieces they need to escape.

Couch co-op and split-screens are starting to reappear, and ToeJam And Earl: Back In The Groove isn’t the exception, as up to 4 players can play on both local and online multiplayer. You’ll be able to explore randomly generated spaces, play minigames together, and progress your characters with a new system that allows players to unlock and gather items that’ll help them throughout the game.

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, HumaNature Studios was welcomed by Adult Swim’s distribution platform, making the 2017 release possible on PC and the now-announced Nintendo Switch. Greg Johnson, one of the original series’ creators, explained that they still plan to release on all other consoles if the proper arrangements are made.
