The adventures of the South Park gang look to be more bizarre than ever next year. THQ and Obsidian are working on a role-playing game named South Park: The Stick of Truth, based on the still insanely popular (and hilarious) Comedy Central series, and just revealed box art and a new trailer… and it looks like we won’t have to worry about them not being able to capture the humor of the series, at the very least.
South Park: The Stick of Truth centers around The New Kid, whom you’ll be playing as to retrieve the titular stick from a group of “elves” that want it for unknown reasons. Cartman, Kenny, Stan, Kyle, and Butters all figure to be prominent characters in what looks like traditional turn-based RPG gameplay with visuals and humor that would fit in with literally any episode of South Park. It’s sure got a good chance to succeed with Obsidian developing: they’ve done work on games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Fallout: New Vegas.
Also, bonus points to whoever had the brilliant idea of having Kenny dressed up as Princess Zelda.
South Park: The Stick of Truth hits PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in May 2013.
