If the mainstream, retail releases are getting stale and disappointing, and you’re in the mood for something fresh, look no further. Mike Bithell’s Thomas Was Alone is now available on Xbox One as a digital download.
In Mike Bithell’s indie platformer, players are tasked with manipulating the movement of a small, rectangular shaped entity and guiding them through several stages that involve complex puzzle patterns. While the shapes do not have personality themselves, Danny Wallace, British comedian and actor, lends his voice to the narrator of the game, injecting life into the shapes as he recounts the thoughts of every shape within the game.
Speaking of which, each of the shapes have their own set on abilities. While some hold the ability to move across a horizontal plane and perform massive jumps to reach new heights, others can perform unique tasks such as floating on water. Once the player has obtained more than one shape, they may switch freely between the various shapes at any time.
Across the hundreds of levels within the game, the objective at hand is quite simple: guide the shapes and direct them to the exit points that are specifically tied to each shape. With so many levels on hand, and over fifteen “characters,” there’s plenty of content here to keep even the most puzzle-loving gamers busy for quite a few hours.
Thomas Was Alone is available today on the Xbox One Games Store. It will set you back $10.99 / £7.19.
