Recently Marvel announced that there would be a new Thunder God in town. No, Beta Ray Bill isn’t coming back. But there will be a new individual wielding Mjolnir come this fall. Thor Odinson will fall from grace, due to the events of Uncanny Avengers and Thor: God of Thunder. In October, a new female Thor will arise on the scene.
That’s right, the new Thunder God will be a woman. An as yet unnamed individual, which rules out Angela or Valkyrie. Much to my disappointment.
The creative team will be Jason Aaron (God of Thunder, Wolverine and the X-Men) Writing and Russel Dauterman (Nightwing, Cyclops). I feel that it is very important that Aaron was the writer before, and is the writer still. Shows that there was a plan for this, not just a gimmick.
Personally, I added the book to my pull list. I’m curious. Aaron is a more than competant writer, and Dauterman has done a very good job so far with his current work. So yes, I’m quite excited to see what the new God of Thunder has to show up. And I don’t think that it’s a big deal that it’s a woman. Rather, I’m looking forward to it.
