The Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone Expansion Gets a Dark, Magical Trailer

With just a week away, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s Hearts of Stone launch trailer shows off immortals, a giant toad, and a rare sight: Geralt smiling and dancing.

Hearts of Stone will act as the game’s first major expansion that adds over ten hours of content to the already expansive RPG. There are new characters and monsters to meet, enhanced Signs and Runewords to test out in combat, and a slew of other additional content such as armor, weapons, factions, and a romance with everybody’s favorite red-headed medic from the first game, Shani. We’d go more into the storyline aspects, but the trailer does more justice than words.

While there won’t be any new regions to explore, players can rest assured that the expansion will expand on Novigrad’s playable zone, extending the map further east than what was available in the vanilla game. Players will also be visiting the Oxenfurt Academy and venturing into other secret across Velen and Novigrad.

CD Projekt RED’s official statement of the expansion reads:

Step again into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster slayer, this time hired to defeat a ruthless bandit captain, Olgierd von Everec, a man who possesses the power of immortality. The expansion lets you choose your own way through an adventure that includes recruiting a crew of break-in artists, spending a night partying with a ghost and outsmarting the most bizarre creatures Geralt has ever faced.

Hearts of Stone is out on all platforms next week, October 13th. It’ll set you back $10, or you can opt to purchase the $25 Expansion Pass – which also contains the $20 Blood and Wine expansion (coming early next year) – instead.
