The Movie Fanatics Commentary Podcast 10 | Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Detective Eddie Valiant used to be part of the greatest detective agency in Hollywood. He used to be a lot of things. Fortunately, he’s also part of one of the most groundbreaking movies of the late 1980s in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. This episode, Darrin, Jen, Ben and myself watch a movie that is still loved by movie fans young and old. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is the rare movie that has something for almost everyone. The style is inimitable, blending a gritty, retro noir vibe with the brilliant animated features of the 1940s and ’50s. Speaking of, almost everyone gets a mention here. Betty Boop, Bugs Bunny, Donald Duck (who gets a wonderful scene together with looney counterpart Daffy), Dumbo– you’d have an easier time counting who isn’t here.

The screenplay is expertly written, creating a universe that is both fun and borders on dark without any noticeable shifts in tone, all the while touching themes of corruption, racism, and redemption. Grab your copy and listen along; it’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, a timeless classic.
