The Movie Fanatics Commentary Podcast 12 | Batman '89

It’s hard to undersell how important Batman ’89 was to pop culture, and still is. It reinvigorated Batman as an icon, bringing with it an entire DC Animated Universe, and would go on to set the stage for superhero movies years to come.  This week, Geekvolution’s Captain Logan joins Darrin, Ben and myself for one of the most fun movies we’ll ever watch. Tim Burton’s take on the dark knight is one that splits fans; those in the first camp saying it’s the definitive version of Batman— a dark and mysterious version opposite a fun, deranged and very comic book Joker. Others call it a misguided mess, one that wouldn’t be corrected until 2005’s Batman Begins. But that’s a discussion for another time.

The Captain is a huge fan of the film, as is Darrin. This odd, Prince-fueled film is definitely an odd one, but also one filled with memorable lines and scenes galore. Quite frankly, it’s a solidly entertaining movie without much substance. After the film, be sure to check out Geekvolution by clicking here. It’s well worth your time. Fire up the Batmobile and grab some popcorn, it’s Batman ’89!
