The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD Getting a Wii U Special Edition

The latest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD has unveiled a heavily-rumored special edition of the Wii U. It all started when Nintendo posted a new trailer detailing “Hero Mode” in the game:

See that bit right at 0:53? We get a look at a Wii U GamePad with some ornate Zelda decorations on its borders, complete with a Triforce logo near the left joystick.

So if you don’t have a Wii U yet, you may want to wait and see when or if Nintendo will be announcing the new edition, especially if you’re a Zelda fan.

Anyway, back to “Hero Mode” for a second: it looks like it’ll be similar to the mode in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, where you’ll be able to face off against bigger challenges, tougher enemies, and no hearts generated from anything not a potion or a fairy. Definitely looks to make the original Wind Waker experience a little tougher for those who beat the GameCube original.

There’s still no official release date set for North America, but you can expect The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD to hit stores and the Nintendo eShop this October. Check back here for a full review after the game launches.
