The Comic Fanatic: Marvel NOW Rundown

Welcome back, friends. For this week’s edition of The Comic Fanatic, I’m going to do something a little different. With Marvel NOW starting, I think it’s time to look at what will be ending/starting/re-starting. So here’s the quick and dirty version of what’s changing.

Uncanny Avengers has already started. Review of issue #1 is here. Team of X-Men and Avengers. Written by Rick Remender (Uncanny X-Force), art by John Cassaday (Astonishing X-Men)

Not Changing

Hawkeye will continue as it has, and it will be awesome.

Wolverine and the X-Men will continue under the watchful eyes of Jason Aaron. I’m excited to see what the next year at the Jean Grey School brings, especially after the last issue.

All New X-Men

Restarting in November:

Captain America

Deadpool

Fantastic Four/FF

Indestructible Hulk

Iron Man

Thor: God of Thunder

Uncanny X-Men has ended, last week was the final issue. Will be replace by the upcoming series from Brian Bendis, All New X-Men. Looks fantastic.

X-Men Legacy has one more issue and will be restarting with a different creative team. It will focus on Legion dealing with his father’s death.

Cable and the X-Force

December

Avengers/New Avengers – Both will be written by Jonathan Hickman (Fantastic Four/FF) . Essentially they’ll be two parts of the same story. Reader of one will likely want to get the other. Avengers will come out twice a month, so that’s three weeks a month we’ll get a new Avengers book by Hickman. He’s got time, so let’s hope for some epic stories.

Avengers Academy has one more issue before it’s replaced by Avengers Arena. I’ll be sad to see this series go. It (and the characters) really grew on me. Thus you can see why I’m slightly less than thrilled to see them be battling each other.

Cable and the X-Force will also be starting in December. Roster will include Cable, Domino, Colossus, Forge, and Dr. Nemesis. One of my most anticipated books.

Thunderbolts – New team including Deadpool, Eleckta, Punisher, Venom and Red Hulk. Sounds like a very interesting and volatile roster. I’ll be checking this one out.

January

Superior Spider-Man will be replacing The Amazing Spider-Man after issue #700. Looks like it’s someone other than Peter Parker.

Uncanny X-Force will be relaunching and deal with Psylocke and the fallout of  the Final Execution arc. Interesting team, but it’s X-Force, so you know I’ll be reading it.

Young Avengers will including Wiccan, Hulkling, Miss America Chavez, Hawkeye, Marvel Boy and Loki. Kieron Gillen (Uncanny X-Men) will be the author. Tom Hiddleston (Loki in The Avengers) has praised Gillen’s writing of the character. Looks interesting.

February

February will see new series for Nova, as well as The Guardians of the Galaxy. Both series have long been absent. Guardians will be written by Bendis, and Jeph Loeb will be writing Nova. Personally, I am very exciting for both of these. They’ve been extremely great reads in the past.

That’s a LOT of titles. It’s a great time to check out something different. Try out a series you haven’t before, especially if you like the creative team behind it. Here’s my top five I feel will be worth checking out:

1: All New X-Men. Previews have been really great so far, and Bendis is a great character writer. Very curious to see how the original 1960s deal with their future selves.
2:Cable and the X-Force. I love Cable. Also X-Force.
3: Thor. Jason Aaron is an amazing writer. Art looks fantastic as well.
4: Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s about time we had another run on this series.
5: Deadpool. He will be going after zombie dead presidents. Should be a fun/insane run.

There’s my top 5. What about you? What Marvel NOW titles are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments. Until next week!
