Telltale announced back in 2015 that they had partnered with Marvel for a future superheroes game. Thanks to a current voice actors strike, we may know the title: Guardians of the Galaxy.
We may tell you to take this with a grain or sand – or maybe not, since the source seems quite legit this time. You may remember that one year ago Telltale Games announced they were getting into the superheroe world thanks to a juicy partnership with Marvel. While this was exciting for many, the truth is that details about this project have been kept quite under the public eye ever since. The only fact we knew was that the game was happening in 2017. Now we may know its identity and therefore, shriek with pleasure. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Guardians of the Galaxy, Telltale style.
The leak comes directly from a recent strike by members of SAG-AFTRA, a voice acting union. What does that have to do with Telltale’s next game, you may ask. Well, as a part of their tactics to negotiate better wages, the SAG-AFTRA has released a list of titles currently under development. One of these is Guardians Of The Galaxy – The Video Game aka Blue Harvest, which is attributed to O’Farrell Enterprises. These happen to be the folks in charge of The Walking Dead Season 3, which is actually happening rather soon.
As for the Blue Harvest code name, this could be a simple homage paid to Star Wars (Blue Harvest was the development title for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi). This reminds us of those words said by Telltale’s president Kevin Bruner when he mentioned that he would personally love to make a Star Wars game. Does this mean that the idea is there still? Maybe a second big announcement after the Marvel game ships out?We can only dream about it.
Telltale Games: from Vertigo and DC Comics to Marvel
Telltale Games has yet to confirm whether this list is legit or not. However, all pinpoints to this leak being more of a reality than anything else. This would mean for Guardians of the Galaxy to make their first real appearance in the videogame format fairly soon, perhaps matching the release of the second movie next year.
Of course, it’s not the first time Telltale Games gets comic material and expands on it – on the contrary, they have quite the experience. Both The Wolf Among Us, based on the Fables series from Vertigo, and their own take on Batman, DC Comics’ everlasting dark knight, there’s no doubt Telltale is doing something right with these adaptations. We shall wait and see what 2017 brings!
