Tales of Berseria Gets a Release Date In Japan!

Tales of Berseria

For those of you waiting patiently for the next installment of Motherhship’s Tales series you’re in luck. The wait isn’t over but at least now we can start guessing at dates, on August 18th Tales of Berseria is hitting Japan.

After the lack luster Tales of Zesteria, fans of the Tales games have been hoping for something that could redeem the series. Hopefully offer some new and exciting combat and more of those epic stories they’ve become so accustomed with.

The new trailer that came along with the announced date features playable characters and it shed some more light on the tone and themes expected in the game. It’s safe to say that this world maybe darker than its predecessors and their candy color schemes. The focus on death and abomination is really refreshing, strange as that may sound. Combat has been said to have undergone a change as well, although all details aren’t known yet it has been said that players will allocate the PS4’s buttons to specific parts in order to chain them together, which hopefully adds another layer of depth to pulling off combos.

Tales of Berseria

Tales games have been on a slow slope down becoming less engaging and relying on more recycled characters and plots – and a fair share of terrible voice acting. Although solely in Japanese the trailer looks promising, the world seems engaging and the characters don’t look like cookie cutter anime tropes.

And the biggest change? After 15 games Tales has finally made a female protagonist, Velvet – which sounds like a high-class stripper’s name, but at least it’s not Sorey right? Maybe this is the biggest move to a more well thought through experience, unlike Zesteria.

Fans can at least hope that this is a step in the right direction. with the revamped combat system, darker visuals and story and the first female lead in the series maybe Tales will regain some of its former glory.
