Take-Two Over Their Head?

According to Take-Two’s financial results briefing that took place yesterday, the publisher revealed that one of its major 2010 releases may be pushed back into the 2011 fiscal year. The four titles in question include L.A. Noire, Mafia II, Civilization V, and Max Payne 3.

L.A. Noire, Mafia II, Max Payne 3 and Sid Meier’s Civilization V are all planned for release in the fourth fiscal quarter [August–October, 2010],” the announcement confirms, “however, the Company’s fiscal year 2010 guidance reflects the potential movement of one of these titles into fiscal 2011 [beginning November 1, 2010].”

With each of these titles being highly anticipated by most gamers, it’s hard to pinpoint which one is going to be pushed back even further. Despite the lengthy development time of L.A. Noire has already been given a release window of September and Mafia II earned a release time frame inside the fourth fiscal quarter – so there is a strong chance those two may not be touched.

However, I think it’ll come down to whichever game Take-Two feels will be its strongest seller and that’s the title they’ll decide to push back a couple of month. After all, considering that this Fall is going to more than likely be owned by PlayStation Arc, Project Natal and Halo: Reach, it wouldn’t be too smart to release your heavy hitter against that kind of lineup.
