Super Smash Bros. Swing Fast, Huge Sales for Wii U

Nintendo Of America has confirmed today that a hefty amount of physical and digital copies of Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U have been sold in a matter of three short days.

When it comes to their franchise fighting game, Nintendo seems to always remain at the top, but compared to other games released this year it is certainly the most popular heading into the holiday season. Just in the United States alone, 490,000 digital and physical copies of Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U have been sold during the first three days of it’s release.

Nintendo made a statement about these numbers today, saying that Super Smash Bros. has become the fastest selling Wii U game in the history of the console. In similar fashion, Mario Kart 8 sold 1.2 million physical copies in three days earlier this year. These numbers spell fortune for the company behind Super Mario and Zelda, as their goal seems to be having it’s top-notch fighting title help greatly sell the console in high numbers over the holiday season.

“The Nintendo holiday is off to a great start, but there’s a lot of work left to do and a few more surprises in store for our fans. With great deals coming on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and great content like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker launching next week, Nintendo will offer shoppers the best combination of fun and value this holiday season,” said EVP of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America Scott Moffitt.

Worldwide numbers of the game have not yet been released. If you’re eager to see what the fuss is all about, check out feature article that highlights some of the greatest things about Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U here.
