The past year has involved a lot of huge changes for Steam. They have added free to play games, changed the way their chat works, and have even announced ‘Big Picture Mode’. This involves controller support, and the ability to play on any TV or monitor you own. Now they announced yet another evolutionary factor – a new cross-game trading platform.
Named simply as Steam trading, it will allow users to exchange gifted titles, and in-game items. At the moment it’ll only support Team Fortress 2, and games purchased as gifts on the Steam Store. Think of all the lovely new hats you’ll be able to trade. Valve are also planning to include Portal 2 in-game items to the beta, hopefully pretty quickly.
For example, once a person buys a game as a gift, they are then able to trade it for the games or virtual items of other users. With the massive amount of weapons, and of course hats in Team Fortress 2, it’ll add a new dimension to the playing. Especially if making your characters head look stylish is an important part of the game for you.
Participating in the beta is easy. Users need to open the Steam client and select the ‘Steam Trading Beta’ option from the settings menu.
