After ten dormant years, Bioware RPG Star Wars Knights of the old Republic II has received a update on Steam. This update not only includes support for both Linux and Mac platforms, but rushes in some welcome additions to help fans of the game have a more pleasing experience with the 2004 title.
The most welcome change comes in access to the built in Steam Workshop. Rather infamously, Knights of the Old Republic II launched as an incomplete title. This caused fans to mod and sew together pieces of the game they found to restore it to what it was supposed to be. Having access to Steam Workshop means that players wanting to experience a more complete version of the game will have a much easier time installing the necessary mods.
Along with easier access to the Knights of the Old Republic II modding community, the update also includes over 30 Steam achievements, support for Steam cloud saves, native controller support, and support for wide screen resolutions all the way up to 4K and 5K.
Though it would have been nice to see new developer Aspyr (who handles the port) make the “Sith Lords Restored” mod a full part of the game, this is a welcome gesture to fans- even after ten years. In honor of the update, the game has been given a modest discount on Steam, so anyone who has not yet experienced the classic RPG can pick up a copy and dive right in to the game the way it was meant to be played.
