In an effort to ease overloaded servers Square Enix is temporarily halting the sales of digital copies of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
The overwhelming positive response for this game has created issues with those trying to log-in. The combination of a large player base with the fact that players don’t automatically get kicked when they AFK has resulted in full servers. That’s right, full servers; there isn’t a traditional queue system being used by Square Enix.
Square Enix posted the following on their Facebook page last night:
“Important Notice About FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn – Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN, we are currently experiencing extremely long wait times for users to be able to log in and play. As a temporary measure, we will halt sales of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN’s digital download products so we can accommodate all of those wishing to play. We are working to expand our server capacity in the coming days.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes.”
Just minutes ago Square Enix posted again detailing the measures being taken to ensure that they can meet the demands of the players, including the addition of new servers next week. Square is currently giving priority access to those that have already purchased the game. which explains the halt of digital sales. They also went on to ensure continued communication, and frequent updates.
The log-in issues are currently the only black mark on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Those that are able to log-into the game are having an absolute blast.
