Square Enix is Working on a New NieR Title

NieR

Born out of the collaboration between Square Enix and Platinum Games, NieR: Automata was one of the biggest surprises early this year. Available for PlayStation 4 and PC, the game is currently scoring 88% on Metacritic and keeps on gathering followers. Ingredients for its success lay on its blend of genres, awesome environments, and solid gameplay.

Now Square Enix has confirmed that they are working already on the next installment. According to Siliconera, Square Enix’s producer Yosuke Saito has announced that the stage is already set. However, the whole project seems to be in its very early stages of conception. Still, these are sparkling new to look forward to if you enjoyed the original game.

When asked whether NieR’s game director, Yoko Taro, would be up for it, Saito confirms. “Yoko often says that he’ll do anything as long as he gets money, but there’s no one that doesn’t move for money as much as him. He’ll only do what he really wants to do. So I’ll do my best to try to say something he doesn’t want while trying to guide him to do something I want [laughs].”

Nier

This is not the first time that we hear about Square Enix interested in another NieR title. After all, the company already said that the game surpassed all expectations. It even saved Platinum Games from doom after the cancellation of Scalebound. News of the publisher’s hiring for another NieR-related project surfaced already in September, for instance.

Of course, it’s still too early right now to know what may lay on the horizon for the franchise. But whatever happens, we’ll be hooked to new announcements.

Have you played NieR: Automata, Fanatics? If you have not done so, then you may want to have a look at Caleb’s review and discover why we consider it a must-play.
