Marvel surprised us with a project in the making, result of a partnership between them and Square Enix: a new The Avengers game.
With a fifty seconds teaser, the comic giant revealed their new intentions of making a strong turn in their video game department. The alliance with Final Fantasy XV’s developers could mean a huge boost to their game’s quality.
Strong Developing Team Coming to The Avengers
The new team up between Marvel and Square Enix isn’t exclusive to this title, it will mean the production of several games, being this the first. The premise of the video is the classic quote that revolves around the superheroes team: Reassemble. We can see Thor‘s hammer, Hulk’s broken cage, Iron Man’s arm blaster and Captain Americas’ shield. All looking to make a comeback after what looks like hard times. According to Marvel’s statement, the game will be come with an original story. This includes all of the The Avengers characters, together with iconic moments and settings that appeared along the franchise.
There’s only a few ideas flying around this upcoming title and the future of Marvel’s games. However the developers in charge are Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, assembling quite a team. They are known for titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider, 2013’s Tomb Raider and Deus Ex’s series respectively. As a result, the possible outcomes could rise eyebrows. Marvel’s strategy seems to be pairing with companies with recent and established successes.
“The Avengers project is a perfect example of how Marvel is making games a key part of the landscape for Marvel storytelling, alongside comics, television and film. We can only do this by matching our greatest Super Heroes with the world’s top developers, such as the creative minds at Square Enix.”, said Marvel Entertainment’s Senior Vice President Jay Ong.
They didn’t give any further details, more information is due 2018. Yet a Spider-Man by Insomniac Games game is also brewing for the PS4. We can start to think that Marvel has already started to stir its gaming universe to a different direction, away from the Activision-dominated past.
