Spotify Introduces Student Discount For US College Students

In a bid to target a generation of music lovers who may be more keen on streaming music than toting around CD’s and Walkmans, Spotify has announced the Spotify Student Discount: 50% off Premium accounts for college students.

Though one could have assumed that a majority of college students already are Spotify subscribers, Spotify’s Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer, Jeff Levick, insists that Spotify is focused on capturing that elusive 18-24 demographic of users.

The new monthly price of  $4.99 is available to “students of post-secondary institutions eligible for federal aid programs, including two-year colleges and vocational schools”. This gives full access to the features of a Premium account such as ad-free listening and mobile playlists. And yes, the price reverts back to normal upon graduation. Current Spotify subscribers are eligible for the discount.
